FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a footing takeoff?
A footing takeoff is the process of measuring every concrete footing run on a foundation plan to get total quantities — for footing subcontractors that usually means total linear feet of footing plus the number of concrete support pads, because that is how the work is billed.
What file types does FootingTakeoff accept?
PDF plan sets and common image formats (JPG, PNG, HEIC), including phone photos of paper plans. Higher-resolution originals give the most reliable reads, and the system tells you when image quality is limiting confidence.
Does it handle rebar?
Rebar is usually decided on site rather than shown on residential plans. FootingTakeoff reads rebar call-outs when they exist, and otherwise lets you flip a job between your base rate and your rebar rate with one switch.
How accurate is it?
The system is calibrated against plans whose totals were independently hand-measured by a working footing contractor. On clean plans it matches the hand takeoff; on unclear plans it flags the specific segments it is unsure about instead of silently guessing. You always see the measurement drawn on the plan before you bill.
What does it do with wood-frame bearing strips, window wells, and wing walls?
Different subs bill these differently, so they are separated instead of assumed: excluded from the default linear-foot total but listed with their own measurements, so you can include them per your own billing convention.
Does it work for commercial jobs?
The early-access focus is residential and light-commercial footing plans — houses, townhouses, small buildings. Large commercial and civil work has different drawing conventions and is on the roadmap.
Can my wall company or GC use it too?
The product is built for the footing sub, but the output — a measured overlay plus a quantity summary — is exactly what GCs and wall companies want attached to an invoice. Many disputes end the moment both sides see the same measured plan.
Is my plan data private?
Yes. Your plans and rates are your business records. They are not shared, sold, or used to train anything outside your own account, and you can delete them at any time.
